Give Newark its own place in the trip
The Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Branch Brook Park and Newark Penn Station offer a different view of the region from Manhattan's skyline. Branch Brook Park is particularly associated with cherry blossoms, but a spring photograph is not a promise of flowering at another time of year. The cathedral and park also require a separate plan from the immediate arena surroundings.
The station name is the important detail
Prudential Center is a short walk from Newark Penn Station. Newark Penn and New York Penn are different stations in different states, while Newark Broad Street is another station again. Use the full station name when searching a route or arranging to meet somebody. A hotel described as serving 'New York' may leave you with a cross-Hudson trip after the performance, so compare the return journey before choosing it.
An Ironbound meal or a park visit
The Ironbound district provides a natural pre-show dining option around Ferry Street near Newark Penn. A visit to Branch Brook Park and the cathedral can be worthwhile when you have a longer daytime window, but it is not a quick walk around the arena block. Decide whether the day is centred on downtown dining or a broader city visit, and keep time to collect luggage before entry.
