An East Bay destination in its own right
Lake Merritt, the Tribune Tower and Jack London Square identify three parts of Oakland's urban landscape: the lakeside, downtown and the waterfront. These places provide useful daytime choices for visitors arriving for music. They are not located at the arena complex, and Oakland should not be treated as another name for San Francisco when planning accommodation.
Arena and Coliseum are different buildings
Oakland Arena is the indoor venue, while the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum is the adjacent stadium. Older photographs and tickets may use sponsor names for the arena. Both appear in this directory, so read the full venue field before following directions. Their shared location does not mean their gates, seating plans or event rules are interchangeable. Use the current event page to identify the correct building and entrance.
Pick a daytime neighbourhood
A Lake Merritt outing can focus on the waterside and nearby cultural stops; Jack London Square offers a separate waterfront base for a meal or walk. Downtown's Tribune Tower helps orient a city-centre visit. Leave a distinct travel window for the journey to East Oakland rather than extending sightseeing until doors open. If you are staying across the bay, the post-show trip deserves as much attention as the outward one.
