Tzuyu’s reported JYP contract limbo has ONCE asking one big question about TWICE’s future as OT9 together

Reports that Tzuyu may be leaving JYP Entertainment while staying in TWICE have ONCE refreshing feeds in panic. Korean media say she is reportedly choosing to focus on TWICE’s group activities instead of renewing her individual JYP contract.

This is all happening in TWICE’s second contract renewal round, 11 years after debut and right after their biggest world tour. Fans are asking if “Tzuyu leaving JYP” also means losing her from TWICE, or if this is the start of a new separate-but-together era.

What the Tzuyu leaving JYP reports actually say

According to Korean outlet News1, Tzuyu has reportedly decided not to renew her exclusive contract with JYP Entertainment after more than a decade, but is still expected to join TWICE’s group activities. Allkpop Lab summarizes that she has “reportedly agreed” to continue only with group promotions during this contract period.

JYP’s official line is far more cautious. The company told Hankook Ilbo that it is “currently discussing contract renewals with the TWICE members and will provide an update once anything is finalized.” In other words, JYP has not publicly confirmed that Tzuyu is leaving the agency or revealed any new partner she might be talking to.

The Korea Times notes that these departure reports arrived as JYP continues renewal talks with all nine members. This follows TWICE’s first full-group renewal in July 2022, making 2026 their second major negotiation phase.

Separate but together: why Tzuyu is prioritizing TWICE

A second Allkpop Lab report says Tzuyu, Jeongyeon, and Chaeyoung are exploring individual agency options for solo activities, while remaining committed to TWICE group schedules. That model, where idols keep group work with one company and sign solo deals elsewhere, has become increasingly common in K-pop.

Industry explainers point to groups like GOT7 and BLACKPINK as examples of this “separate but together” structure. Members manage solo music, acting, or fashion under different labels, but maintain group comebacks under a shared brand.

If the current Tzuyu JYP contract renewal reports are accurate, her priority choice to stay active in TWICE suggests she is protecting OT9 promotions first, then sorting out solo plans. For ONCE, that means the center of gravity is still the group, even if individual signatures move.

What this contract limbo means for TWICE and ONCE right now

TWICE debuted in 2015 and just wrapped their sixth world tour THIS IS FOR, a year-long run with 81 concerts across 44 cities and regions, described as the largest tour of their career. That scale signals JYP and TWICE still treating the group as a major global act while renewals play out.

At the same time, Jeongyeon has reportedly met with Baro Entertainment about a possible acting-focused future, and Korean media say leader Jihyo is considering launching a one-person agency. JYP continues to repeat that all members are in a “contract renewal discussion period” and that nothing has been finalized.

For now, every credible report agrees on two key points: Tzuyu is expected to continue TWICE group activities, and there is no official mention of disbandment or a member leaving the lineup. What may change, based on patterns with other groups, is the pace of full-group comebacks as more solo schedules enter the mix.

ONCE watching this contract limbo should keep an eye on: official JYP notices about group contracts, any new agency announcements from individual members, and future TWICE comeback or tour news that clarifies how often OT9 will still stand on stage together.
