Overview

NewJeans is a South Korean girl group formed by ADOR, a subsidiary of HYBE. Debuting on July 22, 2022 with the surprise-released “Attention” music video and no prior promotion, the group became one of the defining acts of K-pop’s fourth generation, with “Ditto” setting Korean chart records and the EP Get Up topping the Billboard 200.

A contract dispute with ADOR — including a brief 2025 rebrand as NJZ — ended when Seoul courts upheld the members’ contracts in October 2025. Hanni, Haerin and Hyein have since returned to ADOR, Danielle departed after her contract was terminated, and discussions on Minji’s return were reported as progressing positively as of mid-2026.

Facts

NewJeans has no official leader and no fixed member positions; all five debut members were revealed only through the surprise "Attention" music video, with no pre-debut promotion.
"Hype Boy" became the longest-charting K-pop girl group song on the Billboard Global 200 (42 weeks), and "Super Shy" the group's highest-charting single on that chart at No. 2. IFPI ranked NewJeans the No. 8 Global Recording Artist of 2023.
