SEVENTEEN is a 13-member South Korean boy group under Pledis Entertainment, debuted May 26, 2015, split into hip-hop, vocal and performance units. Famed as self-producing idols, they hold the best-selling album of 2023 worldwide (FML), were named UNESCO's first Goodwill Ambassador for Youth in 2024, and remain active via sub-units while members complete military service.

Overview

SEVENTEEN is a 13-member South Korean boy group under Pledis Entertainment, debuted on May 26, 2015 and organized into hip-hop, vocal and performance units. Known as “self-producing idols”, the members write, produce and choreograph their own work, led creatively by Woozi and performance director Hoshi.

Their 2023 EP FML became the best-selling album of that year worldwide per IFPI, and in 2024 the group was named UNESCO’s first Goodwill Ambassador for Youth and became the first K-pop act to play Glastonbury. The group continues activities through sub-units while members rotate through mandatory military service, with a full 13-member return planned around 2028.

Facts

SEVENTEEN are known as "self-producing idols": Woozi leads music production with Bumzu, members co-write across units, and the performance unit led by Hoshi directs the group's choreography.
FML (2023) sold about 4.5 million copies in its first week and was named the best-selling album of 2023 worldwide by IFPI; Seventeenth Heaven then topped 5.2 million pre-orders.
The group has stayed active around members' military service through six sub-units — BSS, JxW, HxW, CxM, DxS and V8 — with a full 13-member return planned around 2028. Jeonghan became the first member discharged on June 25, 2026.
The fandom name CARAT, announced on February 14, 2016, references the diamond weight unit and the debut track "Shining Diamond".
