LE SSERAFIM is turning its entire discography into metal coins. The new Sound Coin Album series arrives July 10 at 1 p.m. KST, repackaging every era from FEARLESS to HOT as NFC enabled collectibles instead of CDs. It asks FEARNOT if they are willing to buy the same music again for the merch factor.
Each coin shaped version holds the tracks and digital photos already available through the group’s Weverse Albums releases, now in a display ready object that feels closer to tour merch than a classic jewel case. For collectors, it is a chance to line up LE SSERAFIM’s journey in one shiny set, while others are wondering how many formats one discography really needs.
What Is LE SSERAFIM’s ‘Sound Coin Album’?
The five member group announced six versions of the LE SSERAFIM Sound Coin Album, dropping July 10 as a “commemorative album that traces the journey from the debut album FEARLESS through the 5th mini album HOT.” Each version is a metal coin that unlocks its era’s music and photos through an NFC tap and app login, with no physical CD included.
- FEARLESS (Sound Coin ver.)
- ANTIFRAGILE (Sound Coin ver.)
- UNFORGIVEN (Sound Coin ver.)
- EASY (Sound Coin ver.)
- CRAZY (Sound Coin ver.)
- HOT (Sound Coin ver.)
Each coin comes in an outer box with a photo leaflet, NFC user guide, and one metal Sound Coin. Product details state that the audio and digital content mirror the existing Weverse Albums versions, with the FEARLESS coin highlighting 2023 versions of “The World Is My Oyster,” “Fearless,” and “Blue Flame.”
Source Music framed the project as a look back before the next chapter, saying, “We hope this becomes a special album that allows fans to look back on the members’ journey together.”
Albums as Coins: Excitement and Pushback
Preorders run July 2 to 9 through Weverse Shop Global and other K pop retailers, with Weverse offering random unreleased selfie photocards and a full set benefit if fans buy all six versions. Japan specific “Sound Coin Album Merch” like a binder and keyring are designed to store and display the coins, underlining that this is a collection as much as an album.
On Reddit, some fans are already planning to grab the full set because the coins look “too unique not to,” comparing them to old school collectible pogs. Others are less thrilled, pointing to app fatigue from juggling different platforms and saying, “my CDs are enough… I already have all their Weverse albums so idk if this will be worth it.”
There is also debate over the FEARLESS coin, since product sheets highlight only 2023 versions of key tracks. Fans have speculated about why earlier versions are missing, but Source Music has not addressed that detail.
Why Sound Coin Hits Now for LE SSERAFIM
The rollout lands while LE SSERAFIM’s second studio album PUREFLOW pt.1, released in May, is still climbing. On Billboard’s July 4 chart, the group sits at No. 97 on the Artist 100, with PUREFLOW pt.1 holding No. 3 on World Albums and No. 17 on Top Album Sales for a fifth straight week.
Since 2022, the group has turned each era into a bigger global moment, from ANTIFRAGILE starting their Billboard 200 streak to five consecutive Top 10 entries beginning with UNFORGIVEN. Title tracks EASY and CRAZY hit the Billboard Hot 100, CRAZY reached the U.K. Official Singles Top 100, and monthly listeners on Spotify recently peaked at 21,977,269.
That momentum leads straight into the expanded PUREFLOW world tour, which opens in Incheon on July 11 and 12 before heading to Japan and multiple U.S. cities. With new fans arriving through streams and shows, Sound Coin positions LE SSERAFIM’s first four years as a tidy collectible chapter, and raises a bigger K pop question: are “albums” now mostly about the objects we display, not the discs we play.
