Why SEVENTEEN fans think V8’s 600,000 first week sales could reshape the group’s next sub units

SEVENTEEN unit V8 has officially cleared 622,000 copies in first week sales on Hanteo with their debut mini album V8, after already becoming a half million seller in just three days. That number makes it SEVENTEEN’s third best selling sub unit album so far.

The milestone lands exactly as SEVENTEEN leans harder into sub units in the enlistment era, and right before the newly announced Jeonghan and Joshua unit arrives in October. For Carats, the question now is how these SEVENTEEN V8 first week sales reshape expectations for every unit that follows.

SEVENTEEN V8 First Week Sales: 622,000 Copies And A New Benchmark

V8, made up of Vernon and THE8, dropped V8 on June 29, 2026 at 6 p.m. KST. By July 1 the mini album had already sold 559,904 copies on Hanteo, crossing the half million line in three days, then closing its first week at 622,000 copies.

Within SEVENTEEN’s growing sub unit catalog, that puts V8 behind only CxM’s HYPE VIBES and JxW’s This Man in first week sales. For a brand new two member project, it confirms that unit releases can now move numbers that many full groups chase.

  • Worldwide iTunes Albums: entered at number 5 on release day, rising to number 4 the next day
  • Melon: title track singasong debuted at number 23 on the Top 100 chart
  • iTunes Top Songs: singasong charted in at least nine countries and regions
  • Japan: V8 reached number 4 on Line Music’s real time Album Top 100

On QQ Music in China, V8 topped the Digital Bestselling Album daily chart for three straight days, earned Triple Gold within four hours, and reached Platinum by surpassing 1 million yuan in sales. It later led the platform’s weekly digital album chart, underscoring THE8’s pull in the Chinese market.

Inside V8’s Hyperpop Identity And Global Buzz

Conceptually, Vernon has described V8 as circling around “Consumed Youth,” using the image of a V8 engine running on youth as fuel. The eight track project threads that idea through songs like Friend, BEAT, coloring, girlsnboys, and solo cuts mia (Vernon) and 8DM (THE8).

The sound leans hard into electronic and hyperpop textures. Title track singasong was co composed by Vernon, THE8, and German producer Mechatok, while the credits list Pharrell Williams, Dylan Brady, KIRARA, Alice Longyu Gao, and longtime SEVENTEEN producer BUMZU. For US listeners used to alt pop and club playlists, V8 feels closer to experimental pop than classic idol funk.

A shuffle dance challenge for singasong rolled out on June 19 and racked up over 120 million Instagram views before the album even dropped. Cameos from idols like Jihoon of TWS, Iroha of ILLIT, and LE SSERAFIM’s Huh Yunjin and Kazuha helped push the challenge, feeding directly into V8’s early sales and streaming spike.

What V8’s Breakout Means For SEVENTEEN’s Next Sub Units

SEVENTEEN has already built a busy sub unit universe with BSS, JxW, HxW, CxM, DxS, and now V8, each highlighting different members and sounds. With 622,000 first week sales, V8 raises the baseline for how big a unit release from the group can realistically open.

The timing is strategic. Vernon is expected to enlist in the near term, and sources frame V8 as his final standalone project before service. PLEDIS has also scheduled “2026 VERNON THE 8 [V8] LIVE” shows at KINTEX in Goyang on July 11 and 12 and at AsiaWorld Expo Hall 10 in Hong Kong in late July, plus a HYBE Yongsan pop up from July 4 to 9, giving the unit a focused window to perform the album.

On July 6, PLEDIS confirmed that Jeonghan and Joshua will debut as a new unit in October 2026, following Jeonghan’s military discharge on June 25. It will be Jeonghan’s second unit after record setting JxW and Joshua’s first official unit, positioned in the same successful line as BSS, CxM, DxS, HxW, JxW, and V8. No music details are out yet, but with V8 proving that a two member team can move over 600,000 copies in a week, anticipation around what their October unit will do for SEVENTEEN’s enlistment era playbook is only growing.
